School Volunteer Training

In our ongoing commitment to increase parent/community involvement and to offer convenience for our parents/guardians and community members, the District is pleased to announce that we will begin a School Volunteer Training program in the 2016-17 school year.
What is School Volunteer Training?
Parents/guardians who choose to volunteer and/or chaperone for the 2016-17 school year are required to attend a School Volunteer Training session in order to be cleared. With approximately 25 sessions throughout the school year to choose from (mornings, after school and evenings), parents/guardians and community members can select the session most convenient for them. Each training session is
approximately 30 minutes in length and will include the following:
  • Important Volunteer Information
  • Volunteer/Chaperone Application Form
  • Registered Sex Offender Check through Raptor system
  • Please bring valid state-issued ID
  • Criminal Background Check/ Fingerprint Clearance (applicable for Chaperones only)**
*District Nurses will be onsite to conduct TB Risk Assessments
**A Mobile LiveScan service will be onsite to conduct fingerprints for criminal background check. Fingerprinting cost is $87.00 and is at the expense of the chaperone (Acceptable forms of payment: Cash, Credit Card, Cashier’s Check or Money Order payable to Hanford Mobile LiveScan)

What is a Volunteer vs a Chaperone?
Volunteer assistance is defined under two (2) categories:
1. Volunteers are under the direct supervision of a certificated employee (e.g. volunteering in the classroom, helping with special programs)
2. Chaperones are not supervised by a certificated employee and are reasonably expected to supervise students out of the direct line of sight of the classroom teacher or other qualified district employee (e.g. field trips).
Clearance criteria for each is listed below:

VOLUNTEER
Annual School Volunteer Training
Completed Volunteer Application Form
Registered Sex Offender Check through Raptor System
TB Risk Assessment

CHAPERONE

ALL CURRENT Volunteers and Chaperones are required to attend the annual School Volunteer Training.
Current Chaperones who already have fingerprints on file with the district are not required to be fingerprinted again. A fingerprint clearance shall remain valid as long as the parent/guardian has children who remain continuously enrolled in the district. Any break in enrollment may cause the fingerprint clearance to be nullified.
