Our community is grateful to the KCAO for not only getting this program going, but handling the huge influx in referrals they’ve seen over the past few weeks. KCAO has stepped up in these difficult times and has supported so many COVID patients and their families, and they have done an excellent job in providing these services. Thank you, KCAO!

As we prepare for our ability to reopen to in person instruction, we would like to encourage all families and all students to take advantage of the free flu shot clinic being offered by the Kings County Department of Public Health. There will also be free COVID-19 testing available at these locations as well.
Please note that COVID-19 testing or the flu shot are not currently required for students and families, but when we return to in person instruction it will be very important to reduce our flu illnesses as the symptoms are similar to COVID-19 and result in lengthy quarantines from school.

Monitoring attendance matters. When students show up to learn, they are more likely to be able to stay on-track, stay engaged & meet major educational milestones. Kings County is making significant progress as illustrated by the data represented by the Blueprint for a Safe Economy. Based on the status of the data, we are getting close to safely opening our schools. In preparation for schools to re-open, our district will be following the COVID-19 Industry Guidance as well as the LUESD Re-Opening Plan to allow our students to return to in-person learning at each one of our schools in the safest manner possible. We understand that some families may be unable to send their children back to a traditional school in-person setting for medical, health or other reasons. LUESD will offer two instructional setting options once our schools fully re-open: 1) In-Person Learning (Traditional School) and 2) Distance Learning (Learning from home).
LUESD is asking families that would like their student's to continue school through distance learning fill out the LUESD Instructional Setting Selection Questionnaire (https://forms.gle/AXjv1SRk359VvVpS9) . For families who do not complete the questionnaire, the district will prepare for their children to physically return to school and participate in an in-person learning (traditional school).

💛💚Roadrunner Strong Student💚💛
Engvall would like to commend our amazing kindergarten student, Gianna Perdue, for her compassion, kindness, and generosity.
For her 6th birthday, Gianna requested that, instead of presents, her family and friends donate money to a child that was fighting cancer.
This afternoon Gianna donated over $700 to a young child who has recently been diagnosed with liver cancer.
We are amazed by both the generosity of the donors AND of our own Engvall Roadrunner. Thank you so much for you kindness, Gianna; you truly are Roadrunner STRONG. 💛💚

Engvall Parents, thank you for your patience and support as Miss Olson navigates the best way to deliver your child’s PE content during Distance Learning. Starting this week, your child will find all of their PE lessons each day in an additional Google Classroom labeled “Miss Olson’s PE Class.” Please join this classroom and check for assignments daily. Although we are not giving grades for PE during Distance Learning, we highly encourage your child to participate each day to promote an active and healthy lifestyle. Please submit all of your PE assignments once they have been completed. Miss Olson will be checking to see who is participating, and rewards will be given to students with the highest amount of PE participation.

Creating an engaging, supportive climate can motivate students to attend classes and encourage families to stay involved.

Support From Our Community
Kings Partnership for Prevention (KPFP) is promoting a "Support Safe Learning" campaign to raise community awareness of the challenges students, parents and school staff are facing during these unprecedented times. They are soliciting donations for student supplies and inviting businesses to adopt classrooms. Their show of support is welcome indeed!

August 3, 2020
Dear Lemoore Union Elementary School Families,
We are just a week away from launching our 2020/2021 school year and we are excited to begin this learning journey with you and your student(s). We will be opening this school year with ALL of our students in a Distance Learning Instructional model. The Distance Learning Model being implemented will NOT be the same as the Distance Learning approach we implemented last spring. Your child’s participation is NOT optional or under a “hold harmless” interpretation. Students will be provided with the same rigorous instruction and high level of expectations we provide to each one of our students during our traditional face-to-face instruction. We are committed to ensuring our students continue to receive the quality education our parents expect and our students deserve. Critical updates are noted below as we prepare for our year together:
● Students will be issued their technology device along with hard copy materials/textbooks to support instruction on August 11 & 12.
● School site Principals will provide specific parent information this week related to the school distribution plan.
● Meals will be provided in a grab and go model. Meal service will take place on Tuesday and Thursdays from 11:15am-12:45pm at each of our school sites. University Charter School and Bridges Academy students will have access at our Liberty Middle School campus for meal pick-up. Mobile meal service will be provided at Sunset Vista and Belle Haven at the times noted above. Please make sure to complete all necessary meal service lunch applications. If you have, any questions related to the meal service program, please contact the Child Nutrition Department at 559-925-6294. Meal service will begin on August 11.
Distance Learning Standards:
● Each student will be assigned a grade level teacher as well as support staff should the student receive English Language Development (ELD) services, Special Education services or Counseling support.
● Students will be engaged in daily instruction Monday through Friday. Attendance will be taken each day.
● A daily instructional schedule will be provided by your school Principal.
● Students will receive live instruction from their teacher, pre-recorded lessons from the teacher and/or online resources, and allotted time for independent work.
● Students will receive instruction based on the guaranteed and essential standards for their grade level.
● Students will be required to complete/submit assignments, and work will be graded.
● Students will receive a report card each trimester. A virtual parent conference will be implemented to ensure interactions and feedback related to student progress are in place
We are confident that together EACH ONE of us will work in partnership to support our precious students in order for them to receive the education they deserve. Critical information will be provided via your site principal and teacher in the coming days. Please make sure to refer to our district and site websites for our 2020/2021 school year critical information as well as phone call communication. We appreciate your continued support as we navigate the new school year with a focus on the health and safety of our students, staff and families.
Sincerely,
Cheryl Hunt
Superintendent

Great job last week LUESD Family! We are on week 3 Activity 1!
When we are able to return to in person instruction, there will be a list of symptoms for you to review with your child. If your child has any of the symptoms, they will need to stay home. Please review this letter thoroughly. Keeping symptomatic individuals home will be an important part of slowing the spread of this virus. Start practicing this review of symptoms before the start of school so the first day is familiar.

Activity 5- Take a selfie! Take a picture of your child wearing their mask and ask your family and friends to text pictures of them wearing a mask too. It will help your child build confidence wearing a mask when they see their friends and family also wearing one. Upload it to your facebook with the hashtag #LUESDStrong to be featured on our facebook!

Week 2 of our Practice at Home Series Activity 4 - Print out this coloring book (click on link below) and have your child color the pages. Seeing people wearing masks will help them get prepared for all the masked faces they will see.

Week 2 of our Practice at Home Series Activity 3- Play is a great way for a child to learn. Help your child make masks out of paper, tape, or string for their figurines, stuffed animals, and dolls. Then, pretend play "school" by having your masked friends line up, sit in a classroom, and other pretend school activities. This will help your child get use to the idea of others wearing masks around them.

Today we are launching Week 2 of our Practice at Home Series. As our Lemoore community bands together to make returning to school a priority, we have put together some family activities for you to practice at home to set your child up for success and new learning this coming school year.

As we are wrapping up the Week 1 activities in our Practice At Home Series, we know that talking with your child and answering their questions about these new skills is the best tool for your child. Please look through all of our Week 1 activities that are linked on our Reopening Plan page of our district website. Today, you can review or print out this resource to read and revisit with your child often this summer.

On behalf of the Board of Trustees, administration and Superintendent Cheryl Hunt, the Lemoore Union Elementary School District celebrates the many contributions of its employees by proclaiming May 4 as Staff Appreciation Day. Every staff member plays an important role in the education of our students, serving as role models and providing support in many ways. The Board of Trustees approved a resolution proclaiming May 4 as Staff Appreciation Day, providing an opportunity to recognize the daily, selfless dedication of certificated teachers, support staff, counselors, school psychologists, nurses, classified and confidential employees, and supervisors and administrators, all of whom work in conjunction to provide a safe, positive learning environment. All week we will celebrate and thank our staff for their commitment to EACH ONE: Every student, All staff, Committed to, High Expectations, Oriented to results, No excuses and Excellence every day! We honor EACH ONE of them for the incredible work they do and the heros they are in the lives of our students.
