DISTRICT APPOINTS FREEDOM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL'S NEW PRINCIPAL
LUESD is pleased to announce the appointment of Tracy Cassina as the Principal of Freedom Elementary School. The new elementary school will open in the Fall of 2021. Professionally, Mrs. Cassina has 23 years of experience in the field of education serving in the Lemoore Union Elementary School District. Mrs. Cassina had 21 years of teaching experience in the district before being promoted to the position of Learning Coordinator for Meadow Lane Elementary in the 2019/2020 school year. She has also served as our Summer School Administrator for the 2017-2019 summer school sessions. We congratulate Tracy Cassina on her new position and are excited to have her leadership guiding the opening of our new Freedom Elementary school site!

LUESD would like to recognize our Board of Trustees in honor of #SchoolBoardRecognitionMonth. There are approximately 5,100 California school board trustees, which is the largest group of elected officials in the state. Trustees aid in supporting student success by establishing policy priorities and benchmarks. Trustees provide a critical accountability link between the schools and the community, and offer accessibility to voters that is unrivaled by other public officeholders. Thank you again to EACH ONE of you for your service and dedication to our LUESD students, staff and families. We appreciate you!

As we prepare for our ability to reopen to in person instruction, we would like to encourage all families and all students to take advantage of the free flu shot clinic being offered by the Kings County Department of Public Health. There will also be free COVID-19 testing available at these locations as well.
Please note that COVID-19 testing or the flu shot are not currently required for students and families, but when we return to in person instruction it will be very important to reduce our flu illnesses as the symptoms are similar to COVID-19 and result in lengthy quarantines from school.

Kings County is making significant progress as illustrated by the data represented by the Blueprint for a Safe Economy. Based on the status of the data, we are getting close to safely opening our schools. In preparation for schools to re-open, our district will be following the COVID-19 Industry Guidance as well as the LUESD Re-Opening Plan to allow our students to return to in-person learning at each one of our schools in the safest manner possible. We understand that some families may be unable to send their children back to a traditional school in-person setting for medical, health or other reasons. LUESD will offer two instructional setting options once our schools fully re-open: 1) In-Person Learning (Traditional School) and 2) Distance Learning (Learning from home).
LUESD is asking families that would like their student's to continue school through distance learning fill out the LUESD Instructional Setting Selection Questionnaire (https://forms.gle/AXjv1SRk359VvVpS9) . For families who do not complete the questionnaire, the district will prepare for their children to physically return to school and participate in an in-person learning (traditional school).

Support From Our Community
Kings Partnership for Prevention (KPFP) is promoting a "Support Safe Learning" campaign to raise community awareness of the challenges students, parents and school staff are facing during these unprecedented times. They are soliciting donations for student supplies and inviting businesses to adopt classrooms. Their show of support is welcome indeed!
KPFP are also sponsoring a community wide spirit week for schools from August 17-21.
So let's support them in turn!! KINGSCOUNTYSTRONG #LUESDSTRONG

When we are able to return to in person instruction, there will be a list of symptoms for you to review with your child. If your child has any of the symptoms, they will need to stay home. Please review this letter thoroughly. Keeping symptomatic individuals home will be an important part of slowing the spread of this virus. Start practicing this review of symptoms before the start of school so the first day is familiar.

It will help your child build confidence wearing a mask when they see their friends and family also wearing one. Upload it to your facebook with the hashtag #LUESDStrong to be featured on our facebook!

Week 2 of our Practice at Home Series Activity 4 - Print out this coloring book (click on link below) and have your child color the pages. Seeing people wearing masks will help them get prepared for all the masked faces they will see.

Week 2 of our Practice at Home Series Activity 3- Play is a great way for a child to learn. Help your child make masks out of paper, tape, or string for their figurines, stuffed animals, and dolls. Then, pretend play "school" by having your masked friends line up, sit in a classroom, and other pretend school activities. On October 2, 2019, your child will bring home a Federal Impact Aid survey form. We appreciate you taking the time to fill out this survey and promptly return it to your childβs school. Each completed survey is extremely important as these forms help bring in federal dollars to help the Lemoore Union Elementary School District with the cost of educating our students.
Under the Federal Impact Aid program, Congress provides financial assistance to affected school districts. Impact Aid is designed to assist school districts that have lost property tax revenue due to the presence of tax-exempt federal property or that have experienced increased expenditures due to the enrollment of federally connected children, including children living on Indian lands or military installations. The program supports local school districts with concentrations of children who reside on Indian lands or military bases or who have parents/guardians employed on eligible federal properties.

Attendance and achievement are directly linked. Students learn foundation skills, like math and
reading, in the early years. Children who miss school in the elementary years are more likely to
struggle academically and, in later years, to dropout entirely. #attendanceawarness #attendancematters #everydaycounts #schooleveryday #IHeartA2A

Did you know that children can suffer academically if they miss 10 percent of the school year? Thatβs just 18 days or 2 to 3 days a month. And that can add up before you know it. This September our district is celebrating Attendance Awareness Month with a renewed push to get all kids to schoolβon time, every day. Research shows us that absences add up. We know there will be days when your child will miss school, especially when theyβre sick. But we also know that nationwide, as many as 7.5 million students miss 10 percent of the school year. This drastically contributes to students falling behind academically because they have missed too many days.
So this September, for Attendance Awareness Month, letβs work together as a community β to get all kids to school β on time, every day. Thank you for your support as our kids belong in school!!

Registration for any student who will be NEW to the Lemoore Union Elementary School District for the 2019/2020 school year will need to be completed online.
Please visit https://lemooreunion.schoolmint.net to enroll. Or http://lemooreunionca.apptegy.us/o/luesd/page/how-to-enroll-and-required-documents for more information.

Teachers change the lives of millions of children every day, and their work and impact extends far beyond the boundaries of the classroom.
They play a pivotal role in our childrenβs lives, inspiring a lifelong love of learning and discovery and making a difference in their well-being and long-term success.
Don't forget to Thank A Teacher!
