ATTENDANCE

In order for students to have the best opportunity to achieve academic success, it is imperative that they attend school daily.

Bridges Academy daily schedule is 8:00am-3:00pm every day. Bridges Academy does not have early out days nor foggy day schedule.

California law allows that students can be absent from school for the following reasons: Personal illness, quarantine directed by a county or city health official, dentist, doctor, optometrist, or chiropractor; death in the immediate family; attendance at funeral services of the immediate family (one day in state and three days out of state).Pursuant to board policy, when a student has had 14 absences in the school year for illness, further absences for illness must be verified by a physician (AR 5113).

1. When a student is absent from school, a telephone call from the parents or guardian to the school by 11:00 a.m. that day is required giving the following information:

(a) Parent or guardian name

(b) Student's name

(c) Reason for absence

(d) Estimated date of return

(e) Whether assignments are needed

2. If a student has been absent and no phone call has been made, then the student MUST bring a WRITTEN NOTE stating the date, reason, days of absence and parent signature to the main office no later than five school days from the absence.

Note: Students who are absent repeatedly will be referred to the school administration, which may result in a referral to the school attendance review board (SARB).

A student may receive a failing grade for unexcused absences exceeding ten (10) days after a period of seven (7) days have been allowed for the student or the student’s parent/guardian to explain the absences. The student’s record must reflect that the failing grade was due to unexcused absences.
