As we prepare for our ability to reopen to in person instruction, we would like to encourage all families and all students to take advantage of the free flu shot clinic being offered by the Kings County Department of Public Health. There will also be free COVID-19 testing available at these locations as well. Please note that COVID-19 testing or the flu shot are not currently required for students and families, but when we return to in person instruction it will be very important to reduce our flu illnesses as the symptoms are similar to COVID-19 and result in lengthy quarantines from school.

Monitoring attendance matters. When students show up to learn, they are more likely to be able to stay on-track, stay engaged & meet major educational milestones. Check out this great read via @educationweek: https://www.edweek.org/ew/articles/2020/08/20/remote-learning-is-tough-for-many-students.html La asistencia es importante. Cuando los estudiantes se presentan para aprender, es más probable que puedan mantenerse encaminados, mantenerse comprometidos y cumplir con los principales hitos educativos. #AttendanceAwarenessMonth #AttendanceMatters #LUESDStrong #weareLUESD

Kings County is making significant progress as illustrated by the data represented by the Blueprint for a Safe Economy. Based on the status of the data, we are getting close to safely opening our schools. In preparation for schools to re-open, our district will be following the COVID-19 Industry Guidance as well as the LUESD Re-Opening Plan to allow our students to return to in-person learning at each one of our schools in the safest manner possible. We understand that some families may be unable to send their children back to a traditional school in-person setting for medical, health or other reasons. LUESD will offer two instructional setting options once our schools fully re-open: 1) In-Person Learning (Traditional School) and 2) Distance Learning (Learning from home). LUESD is asking families that would like their student's to continue school through distance learning fill out the LUESD Instructional Setting Selection Questionnaire (https://forms.gle/AXjv1SRk359VvVpS9) . For families who do not complete the questionnaire, the district will prepare for their children to physically return to school and participate in an in-person learning (traditional school).

Addressing fears about Covid-19 among students & families when they return to school will help students to participate, focus & learn. Hablar sobre los temores sobre COVID-19 entre los estudiantes y las familias cuando regresen a la escuela ayudará a los estudiantes a participar, concentrarse y aprender. #AttendanceAwarenessMonth #AttendanceMatters #LUESDStrong #weareLUESD

💛💚Roadrunner Strong Student💚💛 Engvall would like to commend our amazing kindergarten student, Gianna Perdue, for her compassion, kindness, and generosity. For her 6th birthday, Gianna requested that, instead of presents, her family and friends donate money to a child that was fighting cancer. This afternoon Gianna donated over $700 to a young child who has recently been diagnosed with liver cancer. We are amazed by both the generosity of the donors AND of our own Engvall Roadrunner. Thank you so much for you kindness, Gianna; you truly are Roadrunner STRONG. 💛💚
